Sometimes, Paul and I like to pretend that we were not nerds as kids. This is not one of those times.

Yesterday, Paul built a basketball sized 12-sided die.

Why would he do such a thing?

A few weeks ago, Paul sent me an email about Catalan solids. They were interesting to me because of the flat packing steel kit business I’ve started with Gocke and my corresponding interest in things built from flat panels. They were interesting to Paul because he had been thinking about different ways to fabricate the vaguely spherical base of the Giant Flame Belching Drinking Bird.

Somehow, he went a little bit sideways with that idea and has since been leaving weird and vaguely threatening voicemails about littering Philadelphia’s Vin Marshall Square (Norris & Frankford streets in Fishtown, home of the Pink Tank) with a heap of giant multi-sided die and/or a Giant Hammer.

It looks like he had a little bit too much free time on his hands last night.

His work was featured on the Make Magazine Blog today.

Nice work, buddy.
