For those of us in the northern hemisphere tonight, with the rooster’s crow comes the first day of spring and my personal favorite time of year. For me, nothing says spring like a dogwood tree. When I was growing up there was a dogwood tree outside my bedroom window and nowhere can be found an Easter picture of my family without a dogwood somewhere in the background. With the first day of spring on the horizon I have selected some handmade items, some photography, and a recipe for candied violets, all of which were inspired by the coming season.

Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre have captured the concepts of permanence and impermanence within the theme of their art. Old factories, office buildings, and theatres fill the pages of Yves and Romain’s work; however, it is the immortalization of past generations and societies that prompted these two artists to focus directly on this theme. The aesthetic care which was taken in constructing these buildings provides historical documentation of the pride felt in one’s work, while also serving as a lens that peeks into the world of past generations.

Christopher Kadish is a free-lance, professional photographer from the Philadelphia area. He has immortalized images from California to Europe, and provides an array of services from fine art to headshots and weddings. I sat down with Christopher to catch up on some of his new ideas and get an insight into some of his work.
