We had just missed business hours at the Bradbury museum at Los Alamos, watched the sunrise beside the Trinity test site at White Sands, and were now in Roswell, New Mexico, standing in a faithful recreation of the workshop of the father of modern rocketry. Looking around me, I realized that Goddard had laid a significant amount of the groundwork for the field of rocketry, against the conventional wisdom of the scientific establishment of the time, armed only with his understanding of physics and a very simple workshop.

Some days you eat the bear, and some days the bear eats you.
Putting a neglected 1965 F100 pickup back into running condition in about two weeks and then driving it across the country in another two weeks seemed like a simple enough proposition when we initially discussed it. A junker driven from Fresno back to Oakland at night with no tail lights and no license plate and a few junkyard trips later, we finally got on the road in our truck.

"Not your average Sicilian grandmother's pizza pie."
When I think of fast food, I think, greasy, bland, boring. Foods consisting only of brown & white colors where the ratio of meat to condiment is almost 50/50. The whole experience of eating fast food is completely devoid of the pleasures of aroma and flavor that food can provide.
While recently in San Francisco, I met a friend in Dolores Park who was relaxing on a beautiful day, eating pizza and drinking beer. Which I have to add, friends + outdoors + sunny day + beer, is one of my favorite ways of spending a lazy afternoon. Now getting back to the story, she offered me a slice of pie and it wasn’t your average Sicilian grandmother’s pie. It was an Indian fusion pizza, topped with a chicken & vegetable curry. That’s when I learned of this whole new fad of fusion fast food. You can find Chinese burritos, sushi pizza, Mexican sushi, Thai lasagna, Indian crepes and the list goes on.
